Using Ivoclar Ivotion discs with vhf dental machines

Ivoclar Ivotion discs can be used with the following vhf dental machines:

Validated Ivotionstrategies

The following validated Ivotionstrategies are currently available:

Strategy for monolithic Ivotiondiscs

Monolithic Ivotion discs combine dental and prosthetic base material.

Advantages:

  • High quality of the complete prosthesis.

  • No gluing necessary.

  • Shortest machining time of all validated Ivotion strategies due to only 1 milling operation.

Disadvantage:

Not suitable for all patient applications.

Monolithic Ivotion disc

Strategy for the Ivotionoversize process

The Ivotion oversize process uses 2 discs to manufacture dentures:

  • Ivotion Base: Gingiva-colored disc for the prosthesis base.

  • Ivotion dent: Tooth-colored disc for the gear rim. Also available as a multi-layer blank with the Multi add-on.

Advantages:

  • Suitable for most patient cases.

  • Adhesive residues are also ground.

  • High quality such as for monolithic discs.

Disadvantages:

  • The gear rim and base prosthesis must be glued together.

  • Longer job duration due to 3 milling operations.

Workflows for Ivotion strategies

Each of the validated Ivotion strategies has its own associated workflow.

Monolithic Ivotion discs

For monolithic Ivotion discs, mill 1 job.

  1. Create, nest and calculate job for the complete prosthesis in DentalCAM.

  2. Mount the monolithic disc with the help of the Ivotion mounting aid and mill the job.

 

Ivotion oversize process

With the Ivotion oversize process, you mill 3 jobs.

  1. Create, nest and calculate job 1 for the gear rim in DentalCAM.

  2. Ivotion Mount the dent disc without Ivotion a mounting aid and pre-mill job 1.

    Only adhesive surfaces are ground, other surfaces are roughed.

  3. Create, nest and calculate job 2 for prosthesis base in DentalCAM.

    • DentalCAM automatically creates job 3 for the complete prosthesis.

  4. Ivotion Mount the base disc without Ivotion a mounting aid and pre-mill job 2.

    • Only adhesive surfaces are ground, other surfaces are roughed.

    • For precise remounting, flat surfaces are milled into the edge of the disc.

  5. Glue the gear rim and prosthesis base together.

  6. Mount the disc with the complete prosthesis with the help of the Ivotionmounting aid and fine-mill job 3.

K5 / K5+: Exchanging the blank holder

To use the Ivotion mounting aid, the existing blank holder must be exchanged for the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder.

The following images show the standard K5 blank holder, but they also apply to the standard DirectDisc blank holder.

  1. Open the DirectDisc blank holder or remove the fixing ring of the K5 standard blank holder.

  2. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.

  3. Unscrew the screw (marked orange) that fixates the blank holder to the machine.

  4. Remove the blank holder from the working chamber.

NOTICE

Damages to the machine caused by spindle collision

If the blank holder is open while the axes of the machine are moving, the spindle and the blank holder may be damaged by a collision.

  • Before switching on the machine, executing a job or moving the spindle via DentalCNC, close the blank holder firmly with the left and / or right blank holder lever.
NOTICE

Damage to the machine when retrofitting the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder without activation in DentalCNC

If the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder is retrofitted in the K5 without activating it in DentalCNC, the spindle and the blank holder may get damaged due to a collision.

  • During installation in a K5, activate the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder in DentalCNC.

  1. Remove the Ivotion mounting aid (marked orange).

     

  2. Open the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder. This simplifies the tightening of the blank holder considerably.

     

  3. To place the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder in the machine, do the following:

    1. Position the blank holder in the machine, with the open side to the top, and hold it in place with one hand.

    2. With the other hand, screw in the fixing screw together with the washer.

    3. Align the recess (marked blue) in the holder with the counter part (marked orange) in the machine.

  4. Screw down tightly the blank holder with the fixing screw (marked orange).

  5. NOTICE! Close the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder.

  6. Close the working chamber door.

  7. Connect the machine to all lines.

  8. Switch on the machine at the main power switch. Wait until the machine has referenced.

  9. Ensure that the upper side of the blank holder points upwards.

  10. NOTICE! If you have installed the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder in a K5, activate it in the Machine data view in DentalCNC.

  11. Calibrate the machine and check the result with a test specimen.

  12. If the test specimen is out of tolerance, contact your customer service.

Enter the unlock code for Ivotionediting

Before machining an Ivotion disc for the first time, you must enter an unlock code once at DentalCNC .

The unlock code is supplied with the mounting aid.

  1. Start DentalCNC.

  2. Open the DentalCNC Application settings with the following icon in the main icon bar:

  5. Enter the unlock code and press Enter.

Mounting the Ivotion base and Ivotion dent discs

You use these discs for jobs 1 and 2. Mount them without the Ivotion mounting aid.

  • Recommendation: Align the discs as shown in the following figures. However, if there are multi-layer discs, make sure that the color layers are correctly aligned.

  • Follow the general instructions for mounting discs shown in the operating instructions of your machine.

Mounting Ivotion discs with the help of the Ivotion mounting aid

Mount monolithic Ivotion discs and blanks with a complete prosthesis in the oversize process (job 3) with the help of the machine-specific mounting aid.

NOTICE

Unusable machining results and tool damage due to misaligned Ivotion discs

Monolithic Ivotion discs and blanks with a complete prosthesis in the oversize process must be precisely aligned with mounting aids. Otherwise, objects will be milled incorrectly and tools may break.

The figures show the monolithic Ivotion disc. The procedure for the disc with complete prosthesis in the oversize process is identical.

  1. Loosen the 2 fixing screws on the blank holder without unscrewing them.

  2. Insert the Ivotion disc into the blank holder from above as follows:

    • Only monolithic Ivotion discs: the gingiva-colored side faces forward.

    • The flat surfaces in the border are located in the blank holder as shown (see blue lines).

  3. Attach the Ivotion mounting aid as follows:

    • The upper brackets of the mounting aid (marked orange) lie on top of the blank holder.

    • The lower bracket (marked green) rests on the blank holder below the disc.

    • The mounting aid rests evenly and firmly on the blank holder everywhere.

  4. Tighten the fixing screws with the supplied torque screwdriver (1.5 Nm).

  3. Place the Ivotion disc in the Ivotion DirectDisc blank holder, aligned as follows:

    1. Only monolithic Ivotion discs: the gingival side faces up.

    2. The green line to the left runs parallel to the left edge of the blank holder (see green arrow).

     

     

     

  4. Close the blank holder.

     

    • The mounting aid precisely aligns the Ivotion disc.

  5. Check if the Ivotion disc is positioned correctly in the blank holder:

    1. The inner contour of the mounting aid follows the contour of the Ivotion disc (see green lines).

       

    2. The Ivotion blank holder is completely closed.

Mounting standard discs and block holders

  2. Mount a standard disc or the block holder as per the instructions for the standard DirectDisc blank holder.

      For R5 machines, job S2 is automatically rotated by 135°. This is necessary for correct remounting and is not a malfunction.
