Installing and using the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder

This Help Article describes how to install and use the abutment holder for MEDENTIKA PreFace® blanks. The MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder is available for the following machines:

  • K5
  • N4 / N4+
  • R5
  • S5  / S1 / S2
  • Z4

Not every version of DentalCAM & DentalCNC supports all abutment holders. Recommendation: Upgrade to the latest version for maximum compatibility.

With the MEDENTIKA abutment holder, the machine can machine abutments with prefabricated connection geometries that fit into the holder ( Supported prefabricated abutment blanks in DentalCAM 8).

You can mount blanks in the abutment holder before you install the holder into the machine or vice versa.

Preparing the installation

Have ready:

  • Wet cloth
  • Mild cleaning agent
  1. Close the working chamber door.
  2. To move the spindle to the default position, select the following icon in DentalCNC: 
  3. Open the working chamber door.
  4. Switch off the machine at the main power switch.
  5. Disconnect the machine from the eletrical source.
  6. Thoroughly clean the working chamber, especially the blank holder.

Mounting MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutments

You can mount PreFace® abutments to the abutment holder as follows:

  1. Loosen the screw of the desired abutment position and carefully push the screw into the PreFace® abutment holder. Do not remove the screw.
    • The according abutment position is open.
NOTICE

Bad machining results caused by incorrect scanning of prefabricated abutments

If there is moisture or dirt on the prefabricated abutments, the machine will scan them incorrectly. The machining result will become unusable as a result.

  • Wipe over the bellow before you insert prefabricated abutments so that no cooling liquid drips onto them.
  • Clean the prefabricated abutments with a dry, lint-free cloth before processing.

  1. Push the PreFace® abutment into the holder until it is properly seated. Mind the positioning aids on the respective abutment (marked orange) and in the abutment position (marked blue).

  2. Re-tighten the respective screw of the ® abutment holder.
    • The ® abutment is mounted.

Installing the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder

  1. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment into the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.
  2. Open the working chamber door.
  3. Loosen the 4 screws (marked orange in the figure) which attach the fixing ring to the blank holder.
  4. Remove the fixing ring by turning it clockwise and pulling it upwards.
  5. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.
  6. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The numbers labeling the abutment positions must face upwards.
    • The positioning aids must be positioned on the left side.
  7. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder.

  8. Screw down the fixing ring with the provided torque wrench.

Tighten the screws firmly. If the abutment holder moves or vibrates during processing, the result may become unusable.

You can equip the abutment holder with a maximum amount of 6 prefabricated abutments type MEDENTIKA PreFace®.

Only machine PreFace® abutments that are suited for dry machining.

With the MEDENTIKA abutment holder, the machine can machine abutments with prefabricated connection geometries that fit into the holder ( Supported prefabricated abutment blanks in DentalCAM 8).

You can mount blanks in the abutment holder before you install the holder into the machine or vice versa.

  1. 1 x Ratchet with hexagon bit (1/4" bit)
  2. 1 x Hexagon screwdriver
  3. 2 x Cylinder screw (M4 x 20)
  4. 1 x MEDENTIKA PreFace abutment holder

Preparing the installation

Have ready:

  • Wet cloth
  • Mild cleaning agent
  1. Close the working chamber door.
  2. To move the spindle to the default position, select the following icon in DentalCNC: 
  3. Open the working chamber door.
  4. Switch off the machine at the main power switch.
  5. Disconnect the machine from the eletrical source.
  6. Thoroughly clean the working chamber, especially the blank holder.

Installing the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder

  1. Open the working chamber door.
  2. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.
  3. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The 3 positioning pins must be inserted into the drillings of the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.
  4. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder.

  5. Push the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder as far as possible.
  6. To fixate the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder, screw the 2 cylinder screws into the blank holder with the provided allen key.

You can equip the abutment holder with a maximum amount of 2 prefabricated abutments type MEDENTIKA PreFace®.

Only machine PreFace® abutments that are suited for wet machining.

Mounting MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutments

You can mount PreFace® abutments to the abutment holder as follows:

  1. Loosen the screw of the abutment position of the PreFace® abutment holder. Push down the screw to widen the gap between the 2 parts of the PreFace® abutment holder.
    • The according abutment position is open.

  1. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment into the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.

  3. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.
  4. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The labeling of the abutment holder must face upwards and the flat part of the positioning aids must face the blank holder.
  5. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder.

  6. Push the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder as far as possible.

  1. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment into the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.
  2. Open the working chamber door.
  3. Loosen the 4 screws (marked orange in the figure) which attach the fixing ring to the blank holder.
  4. Remove the fixing ring by turning it clockwise and pulling it upwards.
  5. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.
  6. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The numbers labeling the abutment positions must face upwards.
    • The positioning aids must be positioned on the left side.
  7. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder.

  8. Screw down the fixing ring with the provided torque wrench.

  1. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment into the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.
  2. Select an empty blank magazineClosed Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading. slot and move it to the change position. Make sure the blank magazineClosed Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading. slot is available in DentalCNC.
  3. Remove the blank frame from the blank magazineClosed Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading..
  4. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The numbers labeling the abutment positions must face the same direction as the fixing brackets of the blank frame.
  5. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank frame.
  6. Remount the fixing brackets.

    7. Tighten the screws firmly. If the abutment holder moves or vibrates during processing, the result may become unusable.

  7. Insert the disc or block holder into the change position of the tool magazine. Make sure the blank magazineClosed Part of the blank changer in which you store the blanks for automatic loading. slot is available in DentalCNC.

  3. Open the collet chuck of the blank holder.
  4. Remove the blank from the blank holder if present.
  5. Correctly orient the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder:
    • The pin of the collet chuck of the blank holder must be inserted into the drilling of the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder.
  6. Insert the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder.

  7. Push the MEDENTIKA PreFace® abutment holder into the blank holder as far as possible.
  8. Close the blank holder.
